Chihuahua Dogs - Chihuahua dog history

The Chihuahua’s ancestry is said to begin back in the 9th century with the Techichi – reputed to be a silent dog that was a religious symbol to the Tolbec tribes and sacred to the Aztecs. The Techichi were bred with dogs that came over from China and also breeds from Europe and the resulting dogs were named after their birth place, Mexican city and state of Chihuahua. Suprisingly, the earlier versions of the Chihuahua would have been larger and not so delicate, but with breeding it is now the size we see today.
